Each year, the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS) hosts the Forum and Annual General Meeting. The series, now in its 11th year, focuses on important and emerging new areas of health sciences research and/or practice that have a direct impact on the quality of life of Canadians. CAHS Fellows have a history of outstanding performance in the academic health sciences in Canada. They are world renowned leaders, innovators and researchers in the health sciences.

2016 Forum entitled: Solutions to Inequities in Indigenous Health: What works and why?

Co- Chairs: Jeffrey Reading, First Nations Health Authority Chair in Heart Health & Wellness, Simon Fraser University and former Director of the Institute for Indigenous Health, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto; and John O’Neil, Dean of Health Sciences, Simon Fraser University and former Director of the Manitoba First Nations Centre for Aboriginal Health Research, will bring together national and international expertise to apply the “state of science” to this Forum question.

Keynote Addresses:

Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Pro-Vice Chancellor Maori, University Waikato, New Zealand, is an international expert in Maori health and education and will present experience that can inform Canadian Indigenous Health policy and practice.

Malcolm King, Scientific Director of the CIHR Institute of Aboriginal People’s Health, will set the context for why we are where we are with respect to indigenous health in Canada. Panel Presentations on issues of self-governance and promising practices will showcase successful interventions and work by indigenous researchers towards health solutions.
