Strong spin-orbit coupling in quantum materials provides a novel route to obtain the spin liquid phase, which is a highly entangled quantum ground state of interacting electron systems and hosts exotic quasiparticles. Recently there have been tremendous efforts  to realize the Kitaev spin liquid, which is an exactly solvable example of the spin liquid state, in real materials. After an introduction to topological nature of spin liquid phases, I will discuss the recent experimental and theoretical works on these systems.

La conférence est pour tout public et le café est servi dès 11h30.
