María Emma Wills-Obregón (U. de los Andes, Bogota)

Professor María Emma Wills-Obregón of the Historical Memory Commission and the Universidad de los Andes (Political Science) is presenting on the work of the Commission in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. A public presentation focused on the war, women and resistance in the Colombian Caribbean coast, it was developed between 2009-2010 by the Colombian Historical Memory Commission. Dr. Wills will discuss the study’s conceptual framework for documenting violence and resistance for the purpose of historical clarification and truth seeking in a Latin American context and will present two emblematic cases of massacres and sexual violence in the region (Magdalena and Guajira).
