Summary

In the first part, I will present the Portuguese decriminalization law of drug use, as well the law enforcement data and their effects on drug use and on drug related harms.

Later, I present a research with detected drug users at a Commission for the Dissuasion of Drug Addiction (CDT) - the administrative agency created to decide about the drug use offences -, concerning the drug laws, the evaluation of the contact with the CDT, the knowledge about risks related to the drug use, attitudes towards drug use, and intention to use drugs.

Finally, I will examine normative and deterrence dimensions, as potential drug use predictors, in this population comparatively with a normative sample.
